OwnerVia is a platform that lets car dealers give every vehicle they sell its own AI assistant — reachable by scanning a sticker on the car. This page explains what information we collect, from whom, and why, in plain language.

There are three kinds of people who interact with OwnerVia, and we collect different things from each:

If you're a dealer using OwnerVia

  • Sign-in. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address.
  • Payment. Subscription payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number — Stripe passes us only a confirmation that payment succeeded, your subscription status, and billing identifiers we need to manage your account.
  • Branding. If you upload a logo or set a business name during onboarding, we store the logo file (in Amazon S3, our file storage provider) and the name, and display them on your vehicles' pages.
  • Vehicle data. Information you add about each vehicle — VIN, year, make, model, and the real specs/safety data we look up for it from NHTSA and EPA — is stored so the assistant can answer questions about that car. We don't fetch or store any manufacturer's owner's manual ourselves; see "If you've bought a car with OwnerVia" below for how manuals work.

If you're shopping a car on the lot (before it's sold)

When you scan a sticker and ask the assistant questions about a car or the dealer's lot, your question is sent to our AI provider to generate an answer — we don't require you to create an account or log in to do this.

We do not save your conversation after you leave the page. If you choose to request a callback ("Have someone call me about this vehicle"), we save the phone number you give us, your consent to be contacted, and a short list of the topics you asked about and other vehicles you compared — this is shown only to the dealer whose lot you were browsing, so they can follow up with you.

If you've bought a car with OwnerVia

When you claim your vehicle's personal assistant after buying it, we collect the name, email, and current mileage you enter. This keeps your vehicle's assistant connected to you at no cost to you, for as long as the dealer you bought from is an active OwnerVia dealer.

If you ask your vehicle's assistant to have the dealer reach out to you about other vehicles, we share your name and contact information with that dealer so they can follow up with you.

If you upload your own copy of your vehicle's manual, it's stored and used only to answer your questions about your vehicle — never shared with other owners, dealers, or used to train AI models.

How we use AI

We use Anthropic's Claude to answer questions, using the vehicle's real specs/safety data (and, for an owner who's uploaded their own copy of their manual, that manual) as the source of truth wherever possible. AI-generated answers can occasionally be wrong — we label anything that isn't directly sourced this way, and you should always double-check safety-critical information (towing limits, fluid types, torque specs) against the real manual or the dealer directly.

Who we share information with

We don't sell your information or share it with other dealers or marketers. We work with a small number of service providers to run OwnerVia:

  • Google — sign-in
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Anthropic — AI-generated answers
  • Amazon Web Services (S3) — file storage (logos, manuals, photos)
  • Resend — transactional email (e.g. order notifications)
  • NHTSA (the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) — public VIN decoding and open-recall lookups

Each of these providers only receives what they need to do their specific job.

Your choices

If you'd like your callback request removed, or have any question about what we have on file, email us — see Contact below. Shoppers aren't required to give us anything to use the assistant; only requesting a callback involves sharing a phone number.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information described here, but no online service can guarantee perfect security.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we collect or use information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
